TARGETED EDUCATIONAL OUTCOME
Band focuses on understanding music theory and meets the needs of students who have not yet mastered the skills for advanced musical study. Playing with mature tone and intonation are stressed, along with rhythmic subdivision and the ability to follow conductor's beat.
Students will:
1. Engage in the creative process and participate in the group dynamic through performance.
2. Develop an understanding of the emotional/expressive character of music and its function in society.
3. Use music notation, theory, and terminology to communicate.
4. Perform grade appropriate musical literature with accuracy and expressiveness with well developed ensemble
playing.
5. Sight read at increasing levels.
6. Evaluate performances and artistic choices and compare to models.
7. Understand the connection between music and other arts.
8. Write across the curriculum.
